INTRO - TORREY PINES

Torrey Pines Stable was created by Eric Lamaze in Toronto, Canada more than 30 years ago. Eric arrived from Montreal to Toronto thanks to a friend Jay Hayes for whom he rode as a junior and young rider. From there he worked for Hugh Graham as a rider and trainer. There he became friend with Beverly Creed who was one of Hugh’s customers. When Hugh Graham decided to move his business, he proposed Eric to set up his own business and offered him the customers who would follow him if he found a place to settle down. As a good friend Beverly decided to talk to her father-in-law, Eddie Creed and asked him to talk with Eric. Eddie accepted to meet him. After several meetings Eddie (who had some facilities down his house) accepted to help Eric and offered him the stables he owned. This was the beginning of a long friendship between Eric and the Creed family as well as a major turning point in Eric Lamaze’s life.

Eric was already very good at riding and he also loved teaching. He very quickly understood that he had to make more money in order to grow. That is the reason why he started trading horses while still training his riders/ customers and devoting himself to his sports career.

Being gifted for business he soon became the key trader in the north of the USA. He was one of the first ones to go to Europe to buy horses and then sell them back in the USA. In summer he was in the competitions everywhere in Canada (Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec,...) and in winter he was off to Florida for the Wellington circuit.

After ten years Torrey Pines counted more than 80 trade horses, some 15 customers who trained with Eric and a team of 15 riders and grooms.

Eric’s watchwords for Torrey Pines Stable were: perfection, image and innovation. It was reflected in always neat horses, spotless equipment, very clean facilities as well as an avant-garde taste for decoration. After becoming a key trader in Canada and the USA, he decided to devote more time on his career and to put his trade and coaching aside.

He went to Europe to see what the competitions looked like on the other side of the Atlantic and he very soon closed the stable in Toronto to settle down between Europe and Florida. Bit by bit the name of Torrey Pines got less famous for the benefit of Eric Lamaze. Besides, thanks to his meeting with exceptional owners, he had the opportunity to ride high rank horses that allowed him to win all the prizes he is known for, individual  Gold medal at the Olympic Games in 2008, Team Silver medal in the Olympic Game in 2008 and many other but after his medal with Fine Lady in 2016 Eric decided to come back to his first loves: trade and coaching. He took back the name of Torrey Pines Stable, he also took several young people under his wing and started trading actively again.

Today Torrey Pines never ceases to grow and the quality of the horses is satisfies all kinds of customers (from the amateur to the professional rider) and all the disciplines such as jumping, dressage, eventing and hunter.
